Tools are designed using sophisticated 3D software, which is capable of directly uploading customer drawings in IGES format. Thus saving time and the possibility of error in translation of the data. If customers have a complex design that contains elements such as shapes or folds, we can guarantee the accuracy of the end product.
All tooling is maintained through a TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) Program to either pre-agreed levels or volume driven Programs, to maximise operational efficiency through preventative maintenance.
Press tooling Types
Depending on the part that you need to manufacture, the type of press tooling is important. There is either blanking, forming or progression tooling.
With Blanking, a blanking tool is used to cut out a shape from flat sheet metal. The part that is going to be used is called blank. Another similar process is piercing, where the sheet metal has a hole in it. We can also create press tooling that combines both at the same time.
Forming involves changing the final shape of the metal. A press brake or power press is used to add an angle or curve into the blank. The design will be determined by the forming tool that we create.
Progression tooling is slightly more complex than the other types. It is used when the blanking and forming tooling processes are automated. Sheet metal from a coil is used in the press, and the metal goes through a number of stages. During this time, the metal is bended and cut until the final form is achieved.
